Human rights issues are one of the main concerned of PPI Belanda as ways to contribute to democratization in Indonesia. Considering the frequent human rights violations in Indonesia, whereas the victims mostly bear the less powerful standpoints, PPI Belanda considers the importance of improving public knowledge and awareness on the issue. The complexities of human rights struggle in Indonesia also touches upon the human rights activities, circling from chances of impunity to perpetrators to be exempted from trial to other security threats that human rights activists might face in an enduring human rights struggle for justice. Therefore, as Indonesian student organization abroad, PPI Belanda seeks its member to actively participate in improving better understanding on human rights issues particularly the human rights progress in Indonesia. This strategy is very much in favor to promote shared sympathy among the Indonesians or gain positive support from foreign public concerning the human rights progress. This is very much in line with the fact that human rights struggle has become a phenomenon that is universally being recognized as one of the global prominent issues. So, transparency on the recent human rights achievements in Indonesia should be shared openly to the foreign public. Being as students in the Netherlands, Indonesian students are given enormous opportunities to learn from the context of international society in the Netherlands. Furthermore, the Netherlands is widely known for its eminent reputation on human rights recognition within society. For students, this international atmosphere can be an added value to enrich the experience of living abroad. While on the other hand, these valuable experiences gained during their stay are expected to improve better understanding on human rights issues in which in the end can concretely contribute to the advancement of human rights awareness in Indonesia further. In order to support the idea of advancing human rights awareness, PPI Belanda has established Human Rights Commission as an entity under the organizational structure of PPI Belanda. The idea of creating this commission was initiated during the general assembly of PPI Belanda whereas the meeting agreed to establish an Ad Hoc committee under the authority of PPI Belanda. Then, PPI Leiden was chosen to chair this commission, as an ex-officio. The programmes of activities of the commission are quite flexible which based on the most highlight issues that suitable to the present circumstances or the recent human right progress in Indonesia. All the Indonesian students in the Netherlands are openly welcomed to join this commission. Human Rights Commission activities are as follows: Dissemination on the issue concerning the importance of Human Rights Dissemination on the issue concerning the threats of impunity Support the all kinds of research, comparative studies on the Human Rights issues in Indonesia as well as in other countries. This also includes the final paper on related issues that conducted by Indonesian students in the Netherlands.
